Local competitions and non-competitive events (organized by OMTA):

Classical Festival is a non-competitive event which gives every student an opportunity to play in public. The festival takes place at the end of November in downtown Portland. No winners are chosen, but each participant gets a certificate. Deadline for entry is in the second half of September, application fee is $20. Further details can be found here.

Baroque Festival is another non-competitive event organized by OMTA. Entries must be postmarked by December 15, the festival is in the beginning of February in downtown Portland. Entry fee is $20. Further details can be found here.

Romatic Festival is organized by OMTA and allows students to enter as compatitive or non-competitive. Non-competitive fee is $15, competitive fee is $20. Entries are due in the early March, the festival takes place in the second half of April. Further details can be found here.

Sonata-Sonatina Festival is new for 2010. The first Oregon Sonata-Sonatina Piano Festival will take place on October 16, 2010 in Roseburg. Detailed information can be found here.

 

 

Out-of-state competitions:

United States Open Music Competition (USOMC) was founded in 1992 by a group of music enthusiasts. It is a comprehensive piano competition which includes performances by hundreds of talented young musicians. The competition takes place in February at Mormon Temple in Oakland, CA. Students can choose from a great variety of programs (based on styles, composers, and age group) based on their personal preferences and can compete in either one or several categories. There is a fee of $25 - $80 per each entry. Advance registatration is due on November 1. Further details can be found on USOMC web page.

Seattle International Piano Festival (SIPF) takes place in October each year. The appication deadline is July 1. The competition consists of two rounds (with the exception of youth under the age of 9). The first round is qualification based on submitted audio recording (for children under 9 winners are selected based on this round only). 6 participants from each age group will be invited to make a performance in the second round o fthe competition at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA in the early October, and selected winners will be invited to an additional winners concert several days later.
