Piano Studio of Elena Istratova

Elena Playing Piano

I teach piano in NW Portland, Oregon.

I've been teaching piano for 37 years and have developed my own methods and principles based on Russian classical piano school traditions. My students inspire me to find unique approaches based on their individuality, experience, and imagination. I develop a personal program for every student based on his/her abilities, amount of time available for practicing, and musical preferences. My students play the best examples of piano repertoire from J.S. Bach to D. Shostakovich.

My goal is to bring students to a level at which they can compete with the best young performers in the nation. Between 2009 and 2020, my students won over 500 awards at Portland, Oregon State, US, and international piano competitions.

My Oregon students won 53 gold, silver, bronze, and crystal medals since they started participating in the US Open in 2011. In 2012, my students won the most prestigious award of the US Open competition: "Winner of the winners".

I teach students from early beginners to professional level. The majority of my students are children from 4 to 18 years old.

I am a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and Oregon Music Teachers Association (OMTA). Before moving to Oregon, I was a member of Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) for 10 years.

I teach on a Steinway & Sons "B" grand piano.

I am currently teaching lessons in-person (virtual option available at student's discretion). Please e-mail me to check for availability.
